This was our 11th full season of competition.

Criminal Case – State v Dakota Sutcliffe – The Midlands Supreme Court unanimously held that the felony-murder rule is unconstitutional and reversed Dakota Sutcliffe’s conviction. The matter has been remanded back to the trial court for further proceedings. The county prosecutor’s office has stated that they intend to retry Sutcliffe in a manner consistent with the Midlands Supreme Court’s ruling.

NCT case – State v Jean Riggs – Casey Bartholomew, a long-tenured lab technician, was found deceased due to an apparent drug overdose, in the forensics laboratory, using drugs from the lab. Over the next few months, investigators uncovered a scheme whereby state employees were skimming money and drugs seized in criminal investigations and mis-entering information about the seizures on lab slips. Defendant Officer Jean Riggs is now implicated in that scheme and charged with the felonies of falsifying state records and theft of state property.
